Army Chaplain Fred McDonald had just arrived in Normandy and reported to the 12th Army Group headed by Gen. Omar Bradley.
They'd pitched their tents in an apple orchard just outside of Periers, France. The Germans had retreated, so McDonald decided to take an evening walk into town.....more
