A PERMANENT HOME FOR THE WINDOWS

Since 2010, the Interfaith Center of the Presidio has been the home of the McDonald Peace Windows. Built in 1931, the Presidio Chapel now needs a major facelift and expansion to best serve the interfaith center of tomorrow and importantly, to provide a permanent home for the McDonald Windows in a new 1,900 square foot addition. The support of our generous partners allows us to fund our traveling exhibitions of the Windows and work toward our permanent home.

A new Plan

The new 1,900 square foot addition to the Presidio chapel will provide a permanent home for the McDonald Memorial Peace Windows.

The repetition of solid concrete walls at the Chapel addition serves a purpose for both the structure of the building and for the program of the intended space. Two thickened concrete walls of the main gallery space will be the home to certain pieces of the McDonald Peace Windows.

Two installation techniques will display the complete collection of McDonald Peace Windows. Select windows will be displayed within window openings in the thickened concrete walls, while others will be displayed within this main space.
